Volunteering at The Redwood
The Redwood has relied on the support of volunteers since its beginning, and it continues to welcome volunteers to share in our vision of supporting women and children to live free from abuse.
Thinking about volunteering with us?
We look for volunteers who:
- Are at least 16 years old.
- Are 19 years or older to volunteer as an iDetermine Chat Responder.
- Can provide a cleared vulnerable sector check and/or an enhanced criminal record check.
- Can provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination status (for in-person volunteers only).
- Can attend a virtual interview.
- Can provide 2 personal references.
- Believe survivors and practice anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices.
What we offer to our volunteers:

- Reimbursement for TTC fare to and from the shelter

- The Volunteer Coordinator will schedule a virtual interview with selected applicants.
"I’ve always had a lot of respect for shelters and then I saw this opportunity at The Redwood. I thought, in whatever capacity that I could be useful and offer assistance, I would do.
I started volunteering with the tutoring program, helping some of the kids in the shelter.
I think that the work that The Redwood is doing is absolutely incredible. The need for shelter, safe spaces and communities for women and children fleeing abuse is extremely important, and the more people that can give in either a monetary or a personal time commitment in any way is advantageous to the community. I’m very, very happy to be able to be a part of that.”
