Healing Our Young Ones
Healing Our Young Ones (HOYO) is The Redwood’s response to the growing mental health crisis among young people, specifically designed to support children living at The Redwood’s Emergency Shelter.
A therapist, with experience supporting children who have experienced violence, provides needed care to children and youth in-house, preventing them from languishing on long waiting lists.
Interventions are in response to evidence-based assessments. Case plans are tailored to the child’s age, with an emphasis on rebuilding trust, security, and normalcy.
The goal is to equip each child and family with coping skills, resilience tools, and to foster a strong, positive mother-child bond.
Mental health support and interventions range from:
- Play therapy
- Music and movement for younger children
- Focused talk therapy sessions for older children
